| As a collector and consumer of Springbank whiskies, I know how frustrating it can be to not have access to "that" special bottling for a specific market. Therfore any society members wishing to purchase this special bottling of 612 bottles at 53.3% ABV done for PSI in Australia can contact me to arrange an order. It is a Sublime whisky indeed, very dark in colour thick, sweet and viscous in the palate matured in small casks and bottled in June 2009. Cost $180AUD per bottle plus shipping. |

Hi Guys, I will just post Jim Murrays 2010 Whisky bible notes. Cheers
PSI Springbank 1998 small oak cask (95)
n24.5 a sublimely sexy package: concentrated barley with bourbony concentrated oak. The explosive mix takes you into a land of heady fruit: peaches and guava thickened by toasty molasses, even maybe a hint of PVC phenols;
t24 the tongue-curling effect of the delivery confirms the big oak presence. But the malt has it under control and dishes out plenty of piercingly sharp notes to compensate; spices form in the middle ground; first shyly and then have a freer role;
f23 liquorice and chocolate gives way to chocolate lime;
b23.5 the problem with Springbank is that it is such an enormous malt it needs big age or at least a major reaction with oak to bring the best out of it. So many malts up to the age of about 18 struggle to really be heard: the oak and barley cancel each other out. That has ling been my theory and this wonderful, full-throttled bottling from Springbank filled into small casks to maximise the oak influence - a form of premature aging - goes a way to prove it. The best independent Springbank I have tasted in yonks |
